2021.10.24 15:44 HeavyTanker1945 So yall had a bad day? Gonna be hard to top yesterday for me.
So. i had a bad day yesterday. Woke up late Yesterday, and my dad decided while i was alseep to go out and attempt to work on my car. Ended up breaking off 2 Valve cover bolts in the Head. So im a bit angry. Right after i can just got it fixed too. All it was, was a slight Oil leak, and not even from the area he was trying to work on. BUT NO! he had to fuck it over. Right after we had spent like $200 putting a water pump in the thing. HE HAS TO SCREW IT UP. that's definitely the end of the 04 Lincoln LS.
FUCK. hadn't even got the chance to drive the damn thing yet. Gonna try and get a couple self tapper screws into the bolt holes. enough to hold the valve cover on. and im selling it off, or trading it in. Im really pissed. tried to hold it in yesterday. BUT HOW CAN YOU BE THAT STUPID. TIGHTENING BOLTS WONT FIX A OIL LEAK.

2021.10.24 15:44 kylemarlin Thinking about putting an "off-site" NAS in my shed as a backup to my in-home NAS
TL;DR: Have a new uninsulated shed in Ohio. Thinking about putting an old laptop with lots of external hard drives as a NAS in a small fridge. Looking for advice.
I have a NAS server that has about 50TB of data. I'd like to add an off-site backup, but given internet data caps, I'd have to keep it on my property. I've been thinking about the logistics for a while now, and I'm curious if throwing an old laptop and a whole bunch of external drives out in my shed will do.
Some specifics about my shed: it's in Ohio (USA) and is a new construction but lacks any insulation. It has a row of shingle vents spanning the length of the shed - 6m (20ft). On the ends are two side vents as well, and I plan on adding temperature controlled fans on both ends. Currently I'd say temperature extremes in there range from -21°C (-5°F) in the winters to about 43°C (110°F) in the summers. I expect the fans in the summer to reduce that several degrees. In the summers, the shed has a pool pump and a dehumidifier running. I've never had a problem with the pool pump leaking, but it does have a slanted floor that leads to drains should things ever go amiss. I run the dehumidifier as a precaution and so all my tools in there don't rust, but don't have any concerns about leaks or anything else. The shed has two 120v/20amp mains heading out there, so I'm not concerned about a lack of power. (Currently everything runs off of just one line.)
My idea: I'm thinking of just throwing a college-dorm-sized refrigerator in the shed with an old laptop and a whole bunch of external drives in it. I'll probably just drill a hole in the side of the fridge for the wiring, and plug it up best I can with insulation. I'll add a couple battery backups for graceful shutdowns.
After some googling, I'm assuming there's probably a reason others don't do this, so looking for pros/cons; why this is a bad idea; etc.

2021.10.24 15:44 Ionic-Nova Tips and Suggestions for New Drivers?
Thinking about doing GrubHub next weekend as my application got accepted recently. I do DoorDash on the weekends and usually average $20-25 an hour. Is GrubHub worth taking up? (Ie does it pay more)
I only take orders that payout $2/mile on DoorDash and don’t accept orders that are less than $6.50 (lowest payout that may have a hidden tip). Are there any must have rules for GrubHub?

2021.10.24 15:44 d_hornman A Terry's Chocolate Orange
There was a Terry's chocolate orange on the side.
We wanted to tear its crinkly skin
And melt the smiley segments
Sideways in our teenage mouths.
But it was for her.
Their anniversary, forgotten.
No argument though: it had been swallowed down whole.
It sat there like a hand grenade.
We couldn't see the pin.
She dusted around the silent chocolate apology,
The shrapnel of resentment tightly packed inside.
My father, blame clad,
Limped down the dry, hollow riverbed of future recriminations.
Then one day it was never there.
No wall had been pulled down.
Barbed wire had not snagged a jumper.
No one was airlifted safely away.
The Cold War continued.

2021.10.24 15:44 DrWest13 Help identifying a concept/construct that may already exist
I am working on developing a research project but I am struggling to find any previous work that resembles the construct I am trying to study. I hope someone here can help. I am working specifically in the field of colleges and universities, but anything that resembles this concept would be appreciated as a starting point.
Targeted Construct: Within a college/university, the employee's perception of how much the organization emphasizes student outcomes to the employee and that the employee's role in the organization is important to student outcomes.
I don't want this to be only a general perception of how much the organization values student outcomes (although that could be part of it), I want it to be tied specifically to the respondents perceptions for themselves. There are lots of scales that asses the institutions focus on students, but I can’t find anything that asks employees how much the institution pushes/communicates student focus to its employees.
For example, a faculty membeteacher may be reminded constantly that student outcomes are important because they are teaching and working with students a lot. But, someone who works in IT may rarely be told that student outcomes are important, because their work is not closely tied to student outcomes.
Some ideas of the types of questions that might get at this concept:
How often does your supervisor discuss student outcomes?
How often are student outcomes discussed among you and your co-workers?
How often do you consider student outcomes in your work?
Even though my target is university, I could build off of something in a variety of fields. Medical providers and social workers come to mind as the closest parallels with patients/clients instead of students, but there could also be customer oriented concepts that would work. I just haven’t been able to find anything resembling this to build off of.
Any suggestions on concepts to look for or starting points for me?
